If you were called as a potential match for a patient, the patient’s doctors are requesting you for additional testing to determine if you are the best donor for the patient. You may be asked to simply complete a Health History Questionnaire or to provide a blood sample for additional testing.

After this additional testing is done, the chance that you will be selected as the best donor for the patient is 1 in 12 or about 8%.

When you are contacted as a potential match, we will make sure you are still interested and able to proceed as a possible donor and will provide you with information and answers to your questions.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU CONTACT YOUR DONOR CENTER BACK ASAP IF YOU HAVE BEEN CALLED AS A POSSIBLE MATCH – even if you are unsure, are no longer interested or able to proceed as a donor, or if you would like to proceed. Contacting your Donor Center right away avoids any serious delays in a patient’s search for a life-saving donor. It also helps us know that the information we are using to contact you is correct, so we do not have to look for alternate ways to get in touch with you.
