I know we always talk about how easy it is to donate to convince people to sign up, but what we really need to stress is the true challenge for those who register. As a registered donor, will you rise to the occasion when you get the phone call from NMDP to tell you that you are a possible match? Will you agree to take time out of your busy life to do additional testing? Will you update your contact information on the NMDP registry when you change addresses? Will you agree to donate if you are the selected donor???I encourage you all to take the time to read up on the donation process so that when you register to become a donor you are completely committed.
Tonight, I would like everyone who has registered to post a comment to let me know that you are "maykin" a commitment to the National Marrow Donor Program. more...

Sam CrossSam was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia on December 2006. He had no symptoms and the diagnosis was made after a routine blood test. Sam was enjoying a full life as a serious student, a captain of the Harvard fencing team, a member of the tennis club team and a regular volunteer at the student-run homeless shelter. In addition to academics and sports, Sam has always taken a lot of interest in helping people, including his work at the shelter and as an active tutor for underprivileged kids since high school. Sam is part Korean and part Caucasian, and this makes finding a match particularly difficult. Check out his website. www.helpsamiam.com
Rohan KarerRohan is an 18 month old boy who has a rare primary immune deficiency called X-linked Hyper IGM syndrome. The only permanent cure for this deficiency is a bone marrow transplant. Until Rohan receives this life saving transplant, he must go to the hospital every 3 weeks for IVIG infusions to build his immunities. This is in addition to the multiple times that he has been hospitalized fighting infections that couldn't be prevented using IVIG alone. Rohan's outside activities and interaction with others is limited in order to avoid exposing him to potential infections. However, as you can see, Rohan's smile is still as beautiful as ever.
