AJ

October 28, 2020

AJ is 9-months-old and has loving parents, Eric and Maria. They call him their miracle baby.

Recently, AJ was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia and he needs a stem cell transplant to help cure him.

“AJ is strong, Aj is a fighter.  We’re happy to see him begin to smile and laugh again.”

The best chance of a donor match would have been a sibling.  Since AJ is an only child, he will need an unrelated donor who will most likely be Filipino like him.

Filipinos only make up 0.4% of the national stem cell donor registry, so it will be challenging for him to find his lifesaver.

We need more Filipinos to sign up as donors to help cure AJ.

Hi! I ordered a home kit to be sent to my address but I’m thinking it’ll take some time to be delivered. Is there a hospital or clinic where I can do the test? I’ll be in Los Angeles from 11/12-11/15.

Hi Nicole, the home kit shouldn’t take long to reach you. I’ll bump your comment to my supervisor who may have more to say.

    Hi-

I have two 1/4 Filipino children, ages 4 and 10 mos, are they eligible? I also have frozen embryos and was unsure if you’re able to derive stem cells from embryos?

Thank you Erin, Your children are still too young, and embryos cannot not be used.
