Andrew was diagnosed with severe myelodysplastic syndrome in 2020, a pre-leukemia condition, the same genetic deficiency took his father’s life in 2014. In 2020, Andrew, a father of two young kids, ages 2 and 4, was fighting for his life. He needed a stem cell donor who was Filipino and/or European like him to give him a second chance at life. Since there are not many Filipinos and Asians in the donor registry, we worked with Andrew and his family to register more diverse donors.
We are happy to tell you that Andrew found his life-saving donor and had a transplant in December 2020.
