Ben was born in Taiwan. He was diagnosed with Myelodysplasia. Ben was a professor of pathology at the University of California, San Francisco, and the chief of pathology at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. His clinical expertise was in renal pathology and ultrastructural pathlogy. His research lab studies viral hepatitis, especially hepatitis B, which disproportionately affects American minorities, including Asian Americans. He was also involved in defending the civil liberties of Asian Americans. H will be remembered dearly by his family and colleagues.
