In 2009, Desimond was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Remission took place quickly, but he had to take daily “maintenance chemotherapy”. He’s been battling CML for 9 years now, and after many complications, his doctor started treating his leukemia again. The best chance of curing his leukemia could be a blood stem cell/marrow transplant.
To have a transplant, he’ll need to have a matching donor. Desimond is Filipino, so his match will most likely be Filipino, too. Only 0.4% of stem cell/marrow donors are Filipino, which might make it challenging for him to find one. If you’re between 18-44 years old, register today to help Desimond and other patients like him.
