At 16 years old, Kurt was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He fought his cancer into remission by enduring four harsh rounds of chemotherapy; he experienced hair loss, mouth sores, muscle atrophy, and extensive fatigue. Unfortunately, he relapsed and was told he needed a bone marrow donor. His brother was not a match. Since Kurt was Chinese, he needed to find a donor who was also Chinese or Asian descent. After months of searching and bone marrow registration drives, Kurt found a donor and underwent a transplant immediately. Due to complications during his recovery, Kurt passed away. Kurt’s story can be found, here.
