After being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in June 2007, Matthew underwent chemotherapy for sixteen months. He was in remission until February 2009 when he relapsed. Before his diagnosis, Matthew helped at marrow registration drives to help patients in need of a marrow donor while attending pharmacy school in LA. It was later that Matthew needed to do searching for his own match. Matthew found a donor and received his transplant in September 2010. He has met his donor, who not only donated to Matthew but once again to help save another person’s life. Due to complications, Matthew passed away in May 2012.
