Tom was a minister at the Sozenji Temple. He enjoyed performing and teaching Taiko, and his favorite past-time was spending time with his little grandson, Cody. Tom was Japanese-American and was diagnosed with T-Cell Leukemia-Lymphoma in 2017 and was searching for a bone marrow donor. Since ethnicity plays a crucial role when finding a matching donor, Tom asked the Japanese community for help. Japanese-Americans only make 0.3% of the national Be The Match Registry. Tom received a transplant in 2017 but passed away shortly after.
